Summer Spotlight 2014 Israel: Israel Immersion

One of the most palatable ways URJ campers can learn about Israeli culture is through food. At Harlam Day Camp, kids learn how to make Israeli Salad and learn the Hebrew words for each ingredient.

Yom Yisrael at Camp George is a day of Israel appreciation and delicious falafel!

In order to foster an environment conducive to Israeli education, it’s essential that URJ camp staff is well informed on the culture, politics, and history of the nation. At Camp Coleman, Jewish comedian and author, Joel Chasnoff, after making the room roar with laughter, facilitated a healthy discussion about Israel. The thought-provoking questions he posed allowed for intellectually stimulating conversation and passionate debate.

This summer, Camp Kalsman brought Israel to Arlington, Washington! Coogarim experienced a tour of the Golan Heights, Tel Aviv, the Dead Sea, and Jerusalem through this interactive Israel education program.

Hoops & Hebrew: URJ Eisner Camp was lucky enough to have Israel immersion implemented on the courts, led by professional basketball players, Ofir Farhi and Lior Lipshits. The two Israelis traveled throughout the U.S. to Jewish summer camps in order to teach basketball and Hebrew simultaneously. Those who participated in the clinic learned Hebrew vocabulary that they could put to use in their day-to-day camp activities.
