Any camper can attest: there are no friends like camp friends. Jane has been going to URJ Camp George for 16 summers (10 years on staff), and during a recent leadership canoe trip, she made a whole new group of friends who she had gone to camp with for years, but never really knew. She reflects on the power of making friends while doing activities in camp, and the ways in which camp develops our social identity.

Walking the Walk Walking the Walk to Raise Awareness cat-camps2
URJ Eisner CampAt URJ Eisner Camp this past Shabbat, campers and staff ran the half-marathon in honor of Ethan Kadish, a URJ Goldman Union Camp Institute camper who was struck by lightning last summer. Afterwards, all of URJ Eisner Camp walked a mile together, not only for Team Ethan, but for individual causes throughout philanthropy, advocacy, and service that meant the most to them. Read more »

URJ 6 Points Sports AcademyAt URJ 6 Points Academy, campers and staff honor their Jewish responsibility of tikkun olam. The camp is located in Greensboro, NC — the second hungriest place in the United States. The campers raised almost $3500 for Out of the Garden Project, a local organization that donates food to families and kids who are impoverished.

URJ Eisner Camp“The only thing Rabbi Brown loves more than doing sacred work in synagogue is when he gets to pack up and head to URJ Eisner Camp to serve as faculty for two weeks. What he is struck by the most is that he’s able to spend time in a space whose entire communal value system is in sync with the values he carries as a person, husband, father, and rabbi. URJ Camp KalsmanMaccabiah (color war) is one of the best times at camp for a song leader. As a song leader and counselor, Aaron was completely blown away by the massive enthusiasm and ruach(spirit) of URJ Camp Kalsman during their singing and chanting activities. The excitement was so palpable, at times he couldn’t tell if he was dripping sweat from the energy, or tearing up in wonderment. Read more »
